Cliff and Nicola Hanna of Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada
My wife, Nicola, and I live, and run an equine dentistry practice, in northern Canada. Our family is active in many different horse disciplines from show jumping to rodeo and mountain trail riding.
I have been involved with horses my whole adult life.
During a 20-year farrier business I saw a growing need for equine dentists. This resulted in my pursuit of equine dental training and the launch of a dentistry practice. In the 14 years following this choice, a whole new avenue of service to the horse industry developed.
Caring for horse's teeth made me realize that there was a lack of dentistry information for horse owners. Horse people have very little access to good, usable knowledge about what needed to be done in their horse's mouths.
As a result Nicola and I started putting on one-day dental awareness seminars for horse owners all across northwestern Canada. The information that horse owners got from these seminars was so well received that we decided to take this education service to the next level.
We have now designed a horse dentistry handbook specifically for horse owners. And thanks to the internet it is now being marketed all over the world.
We enjoy the steady international interaction with horse people this service now includes. However, we take time to ride our mountain horses on pack trips into the Yukon wilderness.
In the end it's all about the horses!
