Welcome to this issue of EquiNews!

Spring is upon us and with it comes renewed focus on horse activities.

One quick reminder for those of you with horses 2-5 years old – this is the time of year when there will be tooth changes happening in their mouths.

2 year olds will be shedding their first molar caps and cutting their first permanent molars. 3 year olds will be shedding their third set of molar caps, they will be cutting their third permanent molars in the back of their mouth and their center set of adult incisors will be coming into wear.

4 year olds will have their number two adult incisors coming into wear and the 5 year olds will have their number three set of adult incisors coming into wear and the geldings canines should be maturing.

Lots happening there so be sure it is all going well for them!

The feature article in this issue is about your bridle and how it interacts with your horse’s teeth. This can be a very important thing to know about.

The tip and the FAQ both have to do with keeping your horse’s teeth and mouth in good shape and helping him deal with the process.

The word definition explains what a cusp is, and its role in how comfortable your horse is.

This whole bridle and tooth interaction is covered in more detail in the horse owner’s handbook on equine dentistry. If you don’t have your copy yet you can get it at this link:
