Nervous about the Dentist?

When you have an equine dentist come to check your horse’s teeth, be sure to ask him how he would like to proceed.

• Where would he like to work with the horse?
• Does he want you to hold the horse and if so how.
• Be clear about what your role will be.

By checking some basic things with the dentist you will be more comfortable and relaxed and this always translates to your horse. If you are apprehensive and nervous about the procedure, your horse will pick up on that and wonder too.

One way to minimize this is to reassure yourself of what is going to happen and how before you start. Your equine dentist is much more likely to be able to do a good job for you and your horse if you are comfortable with the work that’s going to be done.
