Speculum

A speculum is the instrument an equine dentist uses to hold a horse’s mouth open in order to examine and work on the molars. It fits on the horse’s head like a bridle and is designed with two plates that the upper and lower incisors sit in. This is called the full mouth speculum. Proper care of a horse’s back molars cannot be done without the use of a speculum.
